I am here today speaking to you, as a leader, on behalf of Alo7’s tutor community. My interest in working for Alo7 began when I wanted to use my skills as a teacher as a vocation. These were skills I thought I had already developed, to a certainly decent extent, as a piano teacher and a college instructor. However, the most interesting thing about becoming a tutor with Alo7 is all the things I have learned about becoming a leader from my students.

I may have had the skills to be a teacher but I was not a leader when my journey with Alo7 began. The most interesting thing about being a tutor was the personal transformation I experienced by being the best tutor I could be for my students. An old saying I often recall in my work says, “the teacher and the taught together create the teaching.” The challenge of teaching taught me how to become a leader as a teacher and as an individual, as well.

It is imperative to be the best teachers possible at Alo7, so we can raise future leaders. Our vision statement at Alo7 is to help students confidently say hello to the world so they can be future leaders. Alo7 accomplishes this vision statement by providing dependable tutors, using innovative and adaptable technology along with creative courseware designed to help students succeed in mastering English language skills. The key component in accomplishing this vision statement is by providing English teachers who believe in the vision of guiding their students to become future leaders.

In order for children to begin their journey to success, they must have stability. Tutors must be dependable for their students to assure their success. There were many mornings teaching in the United States that I had my worries about my own dependability, be it through illness or through the regular stresses of daily living - but my students needed me, so I knew I had no other choice but to complete the work I was assigned to do. On days where I worried about my own ability to be dependable, I was inspired by seeing my students completing classes from trains, hospital beds and family vacations - a dedication rarely displayed by other students across the globe.

The only constant in our world is change, and for my students to succeed and be effective future leaders, they must be adaptable and quickly integrate what they have learned. For myself, being adaptable to change and improvement has held me accountable to be fully present and hear every mispronunciation, every grammatical error - so our students are presented with the opportunity for excellence. If I had not learned the standard for quality teaching from our quality control standards, and by seeing excellent teaching from our own community, I would not have been able to give my students the opportunity to achieve excellence. If I, as a teacher, am not willing to learn, adapt and improve, how will my students achieve? Since applying this quality control standard to my own work and by seeing successful teaching experiences with our tutor community, I was able to see my students improve tremendously as a result.

While Alo7 holds tutors to a high standard of excellence, they also encourage students to lead their students with each of their own creative approaches to teaching. This room for creativity and creativity encouraged in our community has led to beautiful moments of exchange between my students and I. Additionally, our students need an engaging atmosphere that allows room for creativity and engagement, they need to be appropriately challenged to meet the challenge of using a language to the level of mastery, but also experience the joy of mastering the target of the lesson.

This room for creativity has led to unique moments of cultural exchange that have changed my understanding of the world. I am a better global citizen, my students have a richer understanding of the world we live in, and even members of my community have a better understanding of the larger world we inhabit by sharing the stories of my students. Even my cat, Bela, was introduced to my student Linda - and she brought her cat to show me, as well. Members of my community have realized how similar we are through these stories of my students from across the world.

I learned so much about life in China from my student Max, and he taught me about how China is working proactively to create innovations and standards to preserve the environment. The times where my daily life in America may have been difficult were transformed when my students would say: “You are my favorite teacher.” There were many times my time with students had ended and I heard “I’ll miss you, teacher.” “I’ll remember you, teacher.” What a privilege to touch not only the minds, but the hearts of children around the globe. I have built wonderful friendships with members of my tutor community and have met many people from around the globe through the process of interviewing potential candidates to work as tutors for the company.

For a job to not only give you a stable place from which to build your life and help to guide the next generation, but also make unforgettable connections for teachers and students is a once in a lifetime opportunity. In my mission as a teacher with Alo7, my goal was to help create future leaders. During this process, by being the best teacher I could be for my students, I became a leader and learned more about the world than I could have possibly imagined. The most interesting thing about becoming a teacher the best teacher for my students, and in return, my students taught me how to be a leader.
